What is your writing process like?
I am a Discovery writer, so there is barely any planning for me before I start writing. I get the plot concept, a character or two, and then I'm off!
How do you come up with ideas for stories and characters?
Movies, books, songs, artwork, real-life people, and experiences--it all serves to inspire me!
What do the words “writer’s block” mean to you?
Writer's block is a state of mind, for me, that usually comes with depression or high levels of anxiety. It's a moment, or many moments, where I do not find joy in writing, where the words just don't flow onto the page like usual.
How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?
I try and take from them anything constructive and laugh off the rest.
How long have you been writing, or when did you start?
I wrote my first story (a fanfic) when I was 12 years old. From there, I continued writing fanfiction until I developed the concept for my horror series at 16, and I have been writing original fiction since then.
What advice would you give writers working on their first book?
Just get it all down. No matter how bad it sounds, just write your first draft. It isn't supposed to be perfect. Let it be messy.
How do you develop your plot and characters?
I just write, legitimately. I don't have a formula or process for it, it just happens.
How many books have you written, and which is your favorite?
So far I have written 6 novellas and Serenade (my most recent novella) is my favorite. I am working on my first novel (Paint It Black), which will take my favorite spot once published.
What part of the book did you have the hardest time writing?
For Serenade, it had to be the end. I won't spoil it, but man it was rough. For Paint It Black, probably the spicy scenes.
What inspired the idea for your book?
Most of my books are inspired by some aspect of mental health and/or mythology/religion. My horror books, and the world they take place in, are heavily inspired by my struggles with my mental health during my late teens to late 20s.
What was your hardest scene to write, and why?
I don't really know one particular scene.
What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?
MUSIC. I absolutely need music to write.
If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose?
Oh man, I'm not really sure. I don't like spending time with many people at all lmao.
When was the last time you Googled yourself and what did you find?
Ah! I just googled myself and my books came up!
