Author Interview - Beth Barany

What is your writing process like?

First I daydream. Then when the idea won't let me go, I start drafting ideas. Then when I decide to commit to the book, I choose a date and start the brain storming process based on my book, Plan Your Novel Like A Pro. Then I write about the first draft. Then I start the editing process which is long and have so many mini-stages. Then I publish!

How do you come up with ideas for stories and characters?

All ways. Dreams, people watching, my imagination.

What do the words “writer’s block” mean to you?

Something is stopping me. My job is to find out what.

How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?

My husband reads all reviews 3 stars and under and tells me what is useful, if anything, in them.

What is the most challenging part of your writing process?

Having patience for how slow things are sometimes.

How long have you been writing, or when did you start?

All my life, okay, since about age 7 or 8.

What advice would you give writers working on their first book?

Just write and finish your first book. Leave the inner censor at the door.

How do you develop your plot and characters?

See #1.

How many books have you written, and which is your favorite?

16 fiction and 5 nonfiction. I always love the most the one I'm working on.
