Author Interview - Vinod Reghunathan

What is your writing process like?

My writing process involves thorough research, creating a detailed outline, and dedicating consistent time each day to write (there are days when I do not write also if I'm not so in a great mood, I skip that day) I value inspiration and take notes when ideas strike. After completing the initial draft, I revise it with feedback from trusted sources to ensure clarity and impact in my work. It's a passion-driven journey to empower and positively impact readers' lives.

How do you come up with ideas for stories and characters?

As a non-fiction writer, my ideas come from personal experiences, research, and observing real-life struggles. Characters in self-help books are often composite representations of people encountered on my self-help journey.

What do the words “writer’s block” mean to you?

Writer's block means a temporary inability to generate new ideas or proceed with writing. It's a creative obstacle that can be overcome with time and techniques. It happens to people when they usually lose confidence. When we keep asking ourselves questions like - who is going to read my book? Will they like what I write? etc... We have to overcome this fear to publish our book.

How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?

I process and deal with negative book reviews by viewing them as opportunities for growth. I try to extract constructive feedback, learn from it, and use it to improve my writing. It's essential not to take reviews personally and focus on the overall impact of my work. Maintaining a positive mindset helps me stay motivated and continue refining my craft.

What is the most challenging part of your writing process?

The most challenging part of my writing process is staying disciplined and consistent. Balancing creativity with the need for structure and maintaining a regular writing routine can be demanding. However, I recognize the importance of pushing through these challenges to deliver valuable content to my readers.

How long have you been writing, or when did you start?

I have been writing for a year, starting my journey as an author recently. This year has been a rewarding experience of growth and learning, and I'm excited to continue evolving as a writer in the future.

What advice would you give writers working on their first book?

1. Write about a topic you're passionate about. 2. Don't worry about perfection in the first draft. 3. Set achievable writing goals and stick to a routine. 4. Seek feedback from trusted sources to improve. 5. Edit and revise your work diligently. 6. Embrace rejections as part of the process. 7. Stay open to learning and growth as a writer. 8. Celebrate milestones and progress. 9. Stay resilient and committed to your vision.

How do you develop your plot and characters?

In non-fiction self-help writing, characters are often composite representations of real-life experiences. They are created to illustrate lessons and struggles, maintaining privacy while resonating with readers on a relatable level. Empathy and personal experiences form the basis of character development.

How many books have you written, and which is your favorite?

As of now, I have written two books which are: "Law Of Attraction & Effection: The Secret Ingredient to Wealth Creation" and "The Crypto Book You Don't Buy". Each book holds a special place in my heart, as they represent different aspects of my personal and professional journey. It's challenging to pick a favorite among them, as they all have unique insights and contributions. Each book has allowed me to connect with readers and share valuable knowledge, which makes each one a cherished accomplishment.

What part of the book did you have the hardest time writing?

The part of the book I found the hardest to write is usually the introduction. Creating an impactful and engaging introduction that sets the tone for the entire book while capturing readers' attention can be a daunting task. It requires careful consideration of the book's core message and how to present it in a compelling manner. However, overcoming this challenge is crucial, as a strong introduction can draw readers in and motivate them to explore the rest of the book's content.

What inspired the idea for your book?

The idea for my book was inspired by my personal experiences and passion for the subject matter. Observing the transformative power of the Law of Attraction in my own life and witnessing its potential to positively impact others, I felt compelled to share these insights with the world. The desire to empower individuals with practical tools for personal growth and positive change fueled my inspiration for the book. Additionally, my fascination with the world of cryptocurrency and its potential to revolutionize finance led me to delve into the topic and write "The Crypto Book You Don't Buy." Ultimately, my books are a product of my genuine enthusiasm to make a difference and contribute positively to the lives of my readers.

What was your hardest scene to write, and why?

As a non-fiction self-help writer, I don't typically write scenes in the traditional sense. However, I can share that one of the most challenging parts of my writing process was conveying personal stories or anecdotes that exposed vulnerability. Sharing personal struggles and moments of growth can be difficult, but it also adds authenticity and relatability to the book. Balancing the desire to connect with readers through these experiences while respecting personal boundaries was a delicate challenge. However, I recognized the importance of being genuine and transparent to create a deeper connection with my audience, which motivated me to overcome this hurdle.

What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

In my writing space, I need minimal distractions, comfortable seating, natural light, organized tools, an inspiration board, time management tools, noise-canceling headphones, healthy snacks, hydration, and a personal touch to stay focused and productive.

If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose?

If I could spend a day with another popular author, I would choose Ray Dalio. His expertise in finance, investment, and his principles for success have been incredibly influential. Spending time with him would provide a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights and learn from his experiences as a successful author and investor. I believe his knowledge and perspective could offer invaluable lessons to further enhance my understanding of finance and personal growth in my writing.
