When do you think someone should call themselves a writer?
There is no set criteria for when someone can call themselves an "writer." It is generally accepted that an writer is someone who has written a book, article, or other written work that has been published or distributed. However, some people may consider themselves authors even if they have not yet been published, or if they have only written personal journals or blog posts. Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to call oneself an writer is a personal one.
What difference do you see between a writer and an author?
An author is a person who is the originator of the written work be it a book or a play, they may also be considered as writers. Anything they write and publish, they are held accountable for. It is at this point when people confuse both the terms with each other as an author can also be considered as a writer whereas the opposite is not true. The author has the copyright of his work and has ownership of his work whereas a writer may certainly not have that ownership.
What do the words “writer’s block” mean to you?
Writer's block is a temporary or lasting failure to put words on paper. It can hit every writer, if only for a few minutes or a day or two, but it becomes a real problem when the writer is not reaching targets and when they feel incapable of completing a piece of work.
How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?
Look to the Future.
What is the most challenging part of your writing process?
It's hard because doing it well matters, because stories matter, and the details matter, and there are often a lot of details. Sometimes they take years to organize. The feelings and ideas and memories that we put into the writing also matter, and are layered, and we can't force an understanding of them.
What part of the book did you have the hardest time writing?
My book is coming out next Friday. I started writing it in June 2018, my last month of residency. Then I had to take a break to study for my board certification exam. Then it was back to writing, revising, deleting, adding content, getting feedback from my content editor, incorporating more feedback and revising some more, then working with a copy editor to make sure the book looked like it was written by an adult human being.
