Author Interview - Robert J Saniscalchi

What is your writing process like?

It starts with an idea, it could be a family drama, a thriller, something in current events or our history. Once that sticks in my head, I do some research about some of the things I want to write about and eventually start typing away. It takes weeks of work but slowly the story is pieced together and it grows over time until the first draft is done. Then it goes around and around, editing and inserting here and there until the feel is right. Then is is off to my editor and he does his thing and it comes back to me for review. once I approve the manuscript, the work is formatted, type-set by the editor and ready for ebook, kindle and print editions.

How do you come up with ideas for stories and characters?

Patience and Imagination is the key for me in fiction writing, I also explained some of it in the process I use to write.

What do the words “writer’s block” mean to you?

When the words are not there, time to stop and take a break.

How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?

You can learn from a good honest review and from their, you can make your book even better. However, if your work is profesionally edited and has plenty of good ratings, a bad dishonest review can happen from jealous or hurtful individuals. Ignore these reviews, you can file a complaint with the platform but that is it,

How long have you been writing, or when did you start?

I started writing in 2001

What advice would you give writers working on their first book?

Take your time, be patient and watch out for scammers and money deals. If you have a good story, find a good reasonably priced editor and you will be so happy you did.

How many books have you written, and which is your favorite?

So far I have Eight published stories and for a favorite one, I have to go back to my first story- Bullets and Bandages: Bond of Brothers. I did this story in a new expanded editon in 2021

What part of the book did you have the hardest time writing?

For Bullets and Bandages, even though it is historical fiction inspired by true events, it was the research and the writing to make things as realistic as possible.

What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

I have to be at my desk, in my cozy place and it needs to be fairly quiet.

If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose?

I would like to sit with JK Rowling and talk about her stories.

When was the last time you Googled yourself and what did you find?

I do it now and then and it seems my list is growing and growing, guess that is a good thing, not sure.
