Author Interview - Tangina Ann

When do you think someone should call themselves a writer?

I would think the moment you have successfully published your first book, article or other media that may qualify you as a writer. Of course some degree of success should follow.

What difference do you see between a writer and an author?

Not too much one may specialize in writing articles in a magazine while the other writes books which is the only difference, I can see between the two.

What do the words “writer’s block” mean to you?

It means take a break for a day or two. It just means you need to regroup a little bit. Sometimes you come to a point that you can't think of what the next move is going to be.

How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?

We all are going to get some good and some bad reviews. Not all bad reviews are all that bad. Some might actually peak someone's interest in buying your book leading them to wonder what they were talking about when it comes to a particular book. I do think however you can be honest about your opinion on a book without being rude or obscene.

What is the most challenging part of your writing process?

Getting up to a certain word count and getting the word out about your book. when you're working on limited funds, and you have social media working against you it can be challenging. Coming up with content in most part is easy.

How long have you been writing, or when did you start?

I started writing when I was in my mid to late 20's I would write a page or an Idea down and file it away. I was a single mom with 3 children to raise with work and taking care of a family I had little time to concentrate on writing. It wasn't until 2012 when I found myself unable to walk and board out of my head with nothing to do but sit and watch TV that I had my daughter get my manuscripts out of the file cabnhttps://www.tangisbooksandmore.wordpress.comet and started to work on them. 2013 I finished my first book and even with all the nay sayers I was published right out of the gate by a traditional publisher American Star Books. It was when they went out of business a little over 5 years later that I started self-publishing my books. https://www.tangisbooksandmore.wordpress.comdern to raise.

What advice would you give writers working on their first book?

Don't give up if it is a dream of yours. Don't let naysayers discourage you. I asked a successful author at one of the book fairs I was selling books at how do you know if you're a success? She said if you sell one book then you're a success. Well by then I sold well over 1 book, and I was encouraged by that, and you should be to.

How do you develop your plot and characters?

That's not an Easy process to describe. I usually have an idea on what I'm going to write the characters seem to just fall in place it when you have to give these character's names is when I have to give some thought to it.

How many books have you written, and which is your favorite?

I wrote 10 books which include The Rise of the Black Horse Rider, I Promise you I'll Never Stop, No Where to Turn, Search for Serinity which is my top seller and my newest - My Fight with Covid. Asking a writer what their favorite book is, is like asking a mother which child is their favorite. Question is which of my books is your favorite?

What part of the book did you have the hardest time writing?

Writing about all the lives that were lost over the past 3 years. It's been heartbreaking to say the least.

What inspired the idea for your book?

When I lost my cousin, niece and a dear friend among others I felt a need to write about it. I didn't want them to be forgotten or just be a statistic as well as my experience with this virus. My goal was to be as informative as I could be.

What was your hardest scene to write, and why?

There wasn't anything easy about writing this book. I had to make sure all my t's were crossed and I's doted.

What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

Quiet ... TV can be on but volume down and no one talking in the background.

If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose?

That's a hard one. Probably Luckie McDonnald he's not popular yet but I kind of expect he will be in the very near future look for his First Book coming out in a few months Daddy Daughter Conversations. If you like to laugh this book will have you rolling with laughter.

When was the last time you Googled yourself and what did you find?
