What is your writing process like?
1) Get up
2) Turn on the laptop
3) Read through yesterday's work again until I feel inspired to edit and then write new material
4) Muddle through the day and cuss and swear at things that interfere with my writing
5) Stagger off to bed and dream about writing.
How do you come up with ideas for stories and characters?
Sometimes I deliberately create them, sometimes they just pop into my head and I have to commit them to a data file before I forget them or lose my mind.
What do the words “writer’s block” mean to you?
Something you run around a few times, then push it back under the bed? Honestly, what is that?
How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?
I don't get negative book reviews.
What is the most challenging part of your writing process?
Time - and only having two hands to type with and two eyes to read with.
How long have you been writing, or when did you start?
Since I was able to hold a wax crayon.
What advice would you give writers working on their first book?
Don't expect to get rich off it. But have fun trying.
How many books have you written, and which is your favorite?
I've written and published over 30 books. My favorite is "Demonspawn", a sci-fi thriller.
What part of the book did you have the hardest time writing?
Every book presents its own challenges. The one with the most challenges was "Xanadu", because it was difficult to find a balance between the comic sections and the parts that dealt with dark, sensitive subjects like death and genocide. It's due for publishing soon.
What inspired the idea for your book?
I like to tell people I write from experience, but the don't believe me.
What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?
1) peace and quiet
2) good music
3) coffee - lots of coffee.
If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose?
Terry Pratchett. But in hindsight, I'd probably need a ouija board.
