Author Interview - Tanisha Bankston

How do you come up with ideas for stories and characters?

It was easy for me to come up with Ideas for my book, my book is based on real life. I didn’t put characters in my book but if you knew me growing up, you would know who the monsters were in my book without saying their names

How long have you been writing, or when did you start?

I have been right every since I was 18 years old. I am now 34 years old. I wrote my first book when I was 32 years old.

What advice would you give writers working on their first book?

The advice I would give writers working on their first book is to not to give up when times get hard and you want to stop typing. Keep it going! It will pay off in the end

What inspired the idea for your book?

Me being a sexual assault, domestic violence and incest survivor inspired me to write my book. I know I wanted to and want to help others like myself and others.

If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose?

Sarah Jakes Roberts! Because we have similar backgrounds.. She too got pregnant at 13 years old and became a teen mom at the tender age of 14. She too had church shame to where people talked about her in church.
