Author Interview - JP Franklinn The Unraveling, Chaos Walking

What is your writing process like?

I would say it is very free, by that I mean I am free to write after I that motivation that will excite me to get it on paper.

How do you come up with ideas for stories and characters?

This question is easy, I lived this life with these characters, names changed ofcorse, so when I say that I wait for the motivation, it is then time to put it on paper. The ideas are exciting as they relate to my past, I love writing about what I went through and what will the reader response be also gets my juices running.

What do the words “writer’s block” mean to you?

I can't really speak about this being I never went through it. I would guess thought, one would be stressed and perhaps a deadline, and are struggling to think about anything important enough to address it.

How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?

To be honest, I am not pleased about it and start to wonder why would they get negitave impressions of something that is incredible. Having about all reviews being rated with 5 Stars softens the reading of the review.

What is the most challenging part of your writing process?

This one is easy, editing. I have had a hard time getting my books formatted and editited to the satifaction of the next editor. It seems like a rip off when one says they completed their work but really they did a lousy job. I then had to spend more money for another editor and go throught the process again.

How long have you been writing, or when did you start?

I started writing novels about ten years ago. Writing in my profession before that.

What advice would you give writers working on their first book?

Find a good editor who you know to do your book. Do not do it yourself. You will be wasting your time and will get frustrated.

How do you develop your plot and characters?

They come to me and then I massage them, looking at all angels to finish off the idea and then write it all in.

How many books have you written, and which is your favorite?

I have written four, and the latest, The Unraveling, Chaos Walking is definately my best.

What part of the book did you have the hardest time writing?

I would probably say the beginning. It is important to capture the reader within the first paragraphs or you will lose them.

What inspired the idea for your book?

As I mentioned, events that I had lived through in the beginning of my life through my corporate years.

What was your hardest scene to write, and why?

The end, it was very emotional and brought the energy forces together. Readers have said how much they enjoyed it.

What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

I like to have my tv on in the background.

If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose?

One who would be able to inspire my soul as it continues to seek peace and love.

When was the last time you Googled yourself and what did you find?

I can't say that I have, maybe I should.
