Author Interview - J.S. Danielle

What is your writing process like?

I can’t say that I have a “method”. I write about some of my experiences, others that I know of and things that are fantasies I’ve heard discussed or that are of my own mind.

How do you come up with ideas for stories and characters?

I’ve read other erotic novels and YA novels that were really good! Not knocking any other Author, I just thought I couldn’t relate to anything I was reading.

What do the words “writer’s block” mean to you?

When nothing is motivating me or moving me to put pencil/pen to paper.

How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?

To each his own…I can’t write to please everyone. I do understand that my particular genre won’t be appealing to everyone - at least not out loud!

What is the most challenging part of your writing process?

Knowing when I’m done…sometimes a story isn’t a novel but a series of short stories. My first novel was split in two at the last minute! It was just too long!

How long have you been writing, or when did you start?

I’ve been writing for a while now, starting with poetry. However, novels? Since 2015.

What advice would you give writers working on their first book?

Don’t stress yourself. Write what comes naturally and pace yourself. Work at a limit befitting you! If you’re under the thumb of a deadline, dedicate some time during the day to write and commit to that.

How do you develop your plot and characters?

What is out there and relative right now. What aren’t peple understanding or really know about and the WHY of it.

How many books have you written, and which is your favorite?

I’ve “written” four. Two have been released. My favorite is the third one (which hasn’t been released).

What part of the book did you have the hardest time writing?

The ending. I love a good cliffhanger…I want a reader to want to seek out the next book!

What inspired the idea for your book?

Seeing others do it and wanting to do better than theirs.

What was your hardest scene to write, and why?

The hardest scene to write…without giving it away? A childhood scene.

What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

Classical music.

If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose?

Colleen Hoover.

When was the last time you Googled yourself and what did you find?

I’ve never googled me. 👀
