Author Interview - Aju Mukhopadhyay

What is your writing process like?

I have different processes for different writing works. For Fiction I plan, sketch roughly and then write directly in my computer. revision and amendments are part of it. For articles I plan, study, make further research through books and Net and then write. Poems first come in mind as intuitive suggestion and then I write, taking time, directly in computer and then may revise extending to days and then finalise. That too may be further amended.

How do you come up with ideas for stories and characters?

They usually come intuitively. Then I prepare mentally. When writing begins the flow may take me to other areas than contempleted. Revision and amendments are parts of the process.

How long have you been writing, or when did you start?

I am a bilingual author, writing in Bangla and English. Bangla being my Mother-tongue I started writing in it from the late sixties of the twentieth century and I ventured writing in English from the Nineties of the last century.

How many books have you written, and which is your favorite?

I have written 42 books including five coauthored books. the following are my favourite: The Mother of All Beings, The World of Sri Aurobindo’s Creative Literature, On Consciousness, Spirituality and Philosophy, Time Whispers in my Ear, Poetry on Nature and Environment, Vast Akash and That House That Age.

What do you need in your writing space to help you stay focused?

Depending on the publishing scenario I want to get published by well known International publisher who would help me getting adequately focused.
